It's been fear of many defenders of traditional marriage that the legal recognition of gay marriage, as imposed by the courts, would set a precedent that would preclude judges from denying such status to group marriages. Whether proponents (such as me) are willing to admit it or not, any time gay marriage is imposed by a court, it adds an arrow to the quiver of legalized polyamory.
